Greetings Friends
This weekend (Memorial Day weekend) we will begin a summer-long series through Paul's letter to the Church in Rome. It begins and ends with Paul's labor and God's ability "to bring about the "obedience of faith"...and we, the "hearers", should take note (Romans 1:5; 16:26).
The objective of this letter apparently is to do just that...to nurture "the obedience of faith" in those who "hear" it. It is my prayer as we enter into these summer months that just as our gardens and fields grow to maturity in order to reproduce a harvest, that our faith may also grow in maturity and that we, too, may see a harvest.
A harvest of righteousness...where God's righteousness in our lives individually and in our church corporately brings good news to one another and to our neighbors and neighborhoods. Please prepare for worship this Memorial Day weekend, by remembering the grace and peace that God has lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus Christ! I hope to see you all Saturday at the Big White House or Sunday at the River.
God's grace and peace to you all,
Dave

Tomato Soup
I am so grateful for your ongoing support for our food bank. We are providing very important support for some people who have great needs. We put a list of needed items here in the newsletter each week. The one thing that we seem to have most of is tomato soup. So, I thought I would quote from a recipe that I wrote 35 years ago for a church cookbook.
Tomato Soup
1 can tomato soup
1 tomato soup can
1 canful of tomato soup size of water
2 canfuls of tomato soup size of saucepan
a significant source of heat
a garbage can (for the trash, not the soup).
Combine the ingredients of the soup can (first the total amount of the soup, then the total amount of the water) in the sauce pan. At this time the can has served its full usefulness and may be discarded in the trash, unless you can possibly use it as a paint brush cleaning can or if it is recyclable. Mix the ingredients in the pan very thoroughly (the soup and the water.) Place the pan with its contents on a significant source of heat so as to bring it to a boil. Stir it occasionally while it is heating. Cool it to a point that you can ieat it without burning your mouth. This will make two large bowls of sour (almost too much) or three small bowls (everyone goes away hungry.) No one understands why they make their cans of soup this size. (A 2 inch brush is the largest that you can clean in a left over can.)

Conner Update
Lynn and Barb Cooner wrote from Guadalajara that they are excited there are new people in every small group of their church. They had a party to go along with Mexico's Children's Day. It was a positive, fun event. Lynn has been busy conducting therapy sessions and conducting marriage and family presentations and teaching family therapy courses for pastors. He is invited to speak in July at the annual Pastoral Counseling Course at the Hopsital in Guadalajara Pray for that and difficult counseling situations. Also pray for the women Barbarta meets with including the wives of pastors for the purpose of mentoring and encouragement. Their entire letter can be read at www.connermex.org or pick up a hard copy in the resource center at The River.
